The Education Committee facilitates the numerous education opportunities for our members offered.
Unifor National Union and Regional Council Scholarships.
Unifor has established 28 scholarships worth $2,000.00 each that are awarded to sons/daughters of Unifor members in good standing. Students must be entering thier first year of full-time post-secondary education (university, community college, technological institute, trades school, etc.) in a public Canadian institution. Up to one scholarship will be available to a Unifor member with at least one year seniority. These are entrance Scholarships only and are not renewable for students entering subsequent years of study.

Applications may be mailed, faxed or scanned and emailed no later than April 30th 2017. The applications have to be signed by one of the following Local Union Officers: President, Financial-Secretary, Recording Secretary or Trustee.
Local Area Courses
Unifor will be running a number of 1 to 3 day courses in our area for Spring 2017. Notably in Hamilton is the 1 day Planning for Your Future course that is quite popular. February to June PEL Course Schedule
Unifor National Education Department Has Released February to June 2017 PEL (Paid Education Leave) Schedule
Here is your chance to apply for an educational opportunity at the Unifor Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario. These courses are free of charge to you and run from Sunday to Friday, with the exception of a few as noted in the schedule. All course related costs including tuition, course materials, accommodation, meals and paid release time away from your job are paid by the employer under the terms of the Paid Education Leave Program negotiated by Unifor Local 5555 on your behalf.
The Education Committee encourages you to take advantage of this unique education program. The 2017 February to June course schedule can be found below. More detailed descriptions of the courses offered over this term can be found on the Unifor National website at the following link

Submit via email attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 289-389-4861 or in hard copy to either union office location (on campus, Gilmour Hall B111 or off campus 45 Frid Street, Unit #11).
Please address to : Unifor Local 5555 Paid Education Leave Selection Committee, Attention: Kim Sardella, Financial Secretary-Treasurer. Please do not fax your application directly to the Port Elgin Family Education Centre as it will not be accepted or returned to us.
Applications must be received before the internal course application deadline indicated in the attached course schedule. Please note the internal application deadlines are earlier than those listed on the Unifor National webpage to allow time for our Local's internal applicant evaluation and approval process.
Also note, before you apply for any Paid Education Leave courses, you must speak to your supervisor to ensure you can be away (released) from your job for the particular week of the course. Your department will be reimbursed for the costs associated (wages & benefits) with your time away while attending the course.
